The image was a gift from the King of Spain given to the Franciscan Mission of Nuestra Senora Candelaria Purisima de Zuni in the year 1629. It is a beautifully carved, wooden statue of the infant Jesus holding the sphere of dominion in his left hand and offers blessing with his right. The image will change (often very dramatically) in not only attitude, but also in color and texture, to alert the viewer to the concerns that the Santo has for the devotee kneeling before the shrine. Pilgrimages were regularly made from Mexico and the western United States in the 1800’s through the 1950’s. But many have forgotten the devotion to the Santo Nino of Zuni. The statue is held very closely to the hearts of the people of Zuni who approached with the utmost respect and reverence. The people of Zuni forbid any photographs or drawings to be made of the Sacred Child. But the House of the Santo Nino will always send the pilgrim away with a blessed memento, if it is requested of them. I would be glad to supply more information to you, if you like. It is our favorite Saint and Devotion in our Family Altar where we maybe.Being the eldest in the family , you are to lead rosary every six o clock in the evening and our Altar Saint is STo. Nino of Prague. That's why I will find a time to visit PRAGUE to see the originality of this Saint Devotion.
